What It Takes For A Woman To Succeed In Business

15 Sep

There is no formula for a woman to be successful in business. Otherwise, all women would have been successful businesspeople by now. Not even a doctorate in a business-related field is a ticket for a woman to be a successful businessperson. Success in business is all about having a positive attitude in life, an attitude that allows a woman to have focus, the same attitude that helps her to succeed in practically all other fields of endeavour if she wants to. You cannot learn that in school.

So, how do you spot women who have what it takes to succeed in business?

They dream big. Women who are on top of their fields are oftentimes described as overachievers, and not in a positive way. Overachievers are frowned upon in an environment of mediocrity. But in a success-driven environment, dreaming big and surpassing one’s expectations and those of others are valued highly.

Spotting networking opportunities is another quality of a success-driven woman. A woman cannot be a successful entrepreneur if she doesn’t know how to turn a problem into an opportunity. Opportunity knocks, but only seldom. The real test is how to to look for opportunities when there seems to none in sight.

Teamwork is also another trait of successful businesswoman. Working with colleagues especially male ones can pose great challenges to women. In many countries, the office is still a male-dominated place. A woman should be assertive of her rights and yet able to get along with everybody.

For a woman to succeed in business, she must keep a strong network of friends, colleagues and family members. Groups of female entrepreneurs, like the National Association of Professional Women, or NAPW, are excellent venues for a woman to learn from others and share her knowledge with them.

Keeping a network of friends is also a key to being a successful businesswoman. These friends may be from sectors not related to business. Friends remind each other that despite the cut-throat competition in their various fields of work, the world can still be great place to go out on weekends, have a few drinks and generally have swell of a time.

For a woman to be a successful entrepreneur, she must also have a strong family support system. A successful woman is not the type of who doesn’t put value to family. The family will provide her with a kind of support that cannot be given by colleagues and friends.
